NoBACZ Bovine Gel launch
in N. Ireland

Following the successful launch of NoBACZ Navel in the Northern Ireland marketplace this spring, Interchem and Pharvet are delighted to announce the introduction of NoBACZ Bovine to our product range.

NoBACZ Bovine consists of shellac, a hydrophobic natural resin that repels water and doesn’t dilute, combined with copper and zinc ions in an ethanol base. The hydrophobic gel is applied as a thick liquid and rapidly sets, conforming to the skin as a flexible barrier that slowly removes itself and biodegrades on farm leaving no waste and requiring no need to remove.

WHAT’S DIFFERENT?
NoBACZ Bovine is an innovative and unique barrier that prevents contamination. It effectively keeps bacteria out to support underlying natural healing.
Pigs
Why use a gel?
  • Lasts longer than topical aerosol sprays
  • Offers optimal barrier protection to keep bacteria out and support natural healing
  • Waterproof to prevent contamination with environmental debris and water
  • Evidence-based technology with proven benefit in a variety of conditions on farm (see lameness study below)
A new approach to hoofcare management
Lameness remains one of the most significant welfare and productivity issues in Irish cattle. Effective prevention and treatment of lesions often hinge on managing exposure to moisture, bacteria, and harsh environmental contaminants—especially in slurry-rich, wet environments.

  • Hydrophobic - Stays in place in both slurry and wet cubicles/fields
  • No need for bandaging
  • Flexible gel rapidly sets to keeps out bacteria and provide a non-colonisable barrier
  • Ideal for application after hoof trimming
  • Antibiotic free
Improved performance compared to aerosol oxytetracycline spray.
A recent study was conducted in cattle on a UK study on a 300-cow, block calving, grazing dairy herd received either a liquid polymer gel bandage or an application of oxytetracycline spray at day 0 and 7.

The study details that applications of the liquid polymer gel demonstrated an improvement of M-score over 28 days in cattle identified with digital dermatitis lesions superior to those that received applications of oxytetracycline spray.
National Sales Manager for Interchem and Pharvet, Paul Kennedy, explains that "Interchem and Pharvet aim to constantly provide the Irish market with science-based products and sustainably sourced ranges that enable the veterinary sector to reduce dependence on traditional antibiotics."

He continues by saying "We were delighted with how well NoBACZ Navel was received in the marketplace following it's launch in earlier this Spring and we are equally as excited to see how NoBACZ Bovine Gel will be adapted on Irish farms. We believe it could completely change how we support lameness cases on farm."

NoBACZ Bovine  is available through both the veterinary and trade channels and is distributed by both the Interchem and Pharvet teams.
